Situated in Kerala, Wayanad National Park is one of the most sort after wildlife sanctuaries in Kerala. Far away from the buzy schedules, honking cars, pollution, jammed roads, this national park offers a perfect getaway for tourists. Famous for its flora and wildlife, the Wayanad National Park is rich in bio-diversity.
Spread over an area of 345 sq.km the Wayanad National Park comprises of two districts-Kozhikode and Cannoor.
The Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is the ideal place to see the wildlife in its natural habitat. The Wayanad National Park does not cater for safaris around the sanctuary but the tourists can take their own vehicle into the sanctuary with a local guide. It is advised to leave for the sanctuary in the early hours of the morning as chances of spotting animals are best at that time.
Known for its leopards and tigers the Wayanad National Park-Kerala also houses the elephant. Usually found in the dry season these elephants migrate to other places in the monsoons. The is a major variety in the wildlife that inhabits this sanctuary.
The Wildlife in Wayanad National Park comprises of the likes of- panthers, tigers,civet cats, wild dogs, monkeys, bisons, jungle cats, bears, snakes, lizards and lots of other animals. The tigers large in number can be seen in Rambur, Tholpetty and Mavinhalla areas.
Peacocks, woodpecker, babblers, owls, cuckoos and jungle owls are just part of some of the Wildlife in Wayanad National Park.
The best time to enjoy seeing the Wildlife in Wayanad National Park is between September to November. July being the wettest with heavy rainfall and february being the driest are not condusive months for a rip to the Wayanad National Park.
