Grizzled Giant Squirrel known in Sri Lanka, as the Sri Lankan Giant Squirrel is a large species of squirrel found in Sri Lanka and in the forests of southern India. The species is found in patches, near forests along the Kaveri River in south India and also in hill forests towards the southern tip of India and in parts of Sri Lanka.
The Lion-Tailed Macaque has smooth, black hair, and are hard to see in the shady forest. They have distinctive gray manes. These animals get their name from their droopy tails. Lion-tailed macaques live in moist, shady evergreen forest in the Western Ghats Mountains, which also include the Kalakkadu Sanctuary.
In the wild, lion-tailed macaques eat fruits, seeds, buds, leaves, insects, and small birds and mammals
Tahrs have stocky bodies and there is a significant difference between the males and females of the species. Males are dark brown with a tinge of black while the females are grayish. They have backwards-curving horns, the female are smaller in size. big males are known as 'saddlebacks' due to the shape of a saddle as they age
Mouse deer are small, secretive creatures, now found only in the tropical forests of Africa, India, and South-east Asia.
Mouse deer have a four-chambered stomach to ferment tough plant foods, but the third chamber is poorly developed. They do not have horns or antlers, and their short, thin legs leave them lacking in quickness.
All Mouse deer species depend for their survival on the retention of their fast- tapering forest habitat and restriction of the meat trade.
Visitors can come to Srivilliputhur Giant Squirrel Sanctuary year round as the weather is fine most of the year.
Near every field inside the sanctuary, there are stone boards talking about the zoological name, its feeding, mating and breeding habits and seasons apart from the place where it is prevalent.
