Kalakkadu Sanctuary has diverse blend of flora fauna and bird varieties.
The wild fauna it includes are: -
The Lion-Tailed Macaque has smooth, black hair, and are hard to see in the shady forest. They have distinctive gray manes. These animals get their name from their droopy tails. Lion-tailed macaques live in moist, shady evergreen forest in the Western Ghats Mountains, which also include the Kalakkadu Sanctuary.
In the wild, lion-tailed macaques eat fruits, seeds, buds, leaves, insects, and small birds and mammals
Sambar is particularly an Indian species; they are dark brown with chestnut marks on the bottom. Sambars are wanderers that live in woodlands like Kalakkadu Sanctuary and feed mainly on coarse vegetation, grass, and herbs. They live in herds of 5-6 members, grazing grass, sprigs, fruit and bamboo. although mainly of the tropics, these deer range up to high elevations such as the mixed coniferous and deciduous forests of Kalakkadu Sanctuary.
Tahrs have stocky bodies and there is a significant difference between the males and females of the species. Males are dark brown with a tinge of black while the females are grayish. They have backwards-curving horns, the female are smaller in size. big males are known as 'saddlebacks' due to the shape of a saddle as they age
Sloth Bears inhabit forested areas and grasslands at lower elevations of south India, mainly Tamil Nadu. They can live both in dry and jungle areas. The main food for Sloth Bears is termites, which are abundant in sanctuaries. They also eat other insects, bird eggs, honey, fruits and a range of vegetation.

Near every field inside the sanctuary, there are stone boards talking about the zoological name, its feeding, mating and breeding habits and seasons apart from the place where it is prevalent.
The best time to visit the park is from September to March. It is suggested. It can be chilly in the winter.
