There are over 1200 species of birds found in the India and a considerable number of them are found in Kalakkadu Sanctuary itself. Here birds are colorful, lively and interesting to listen to. Bird watching in such sanctuaries does not require a lot of equipment; just a good pair of binoculars and a field guide that helps identifies the bird.

Gray Junglefowl
Their habitat range is uneven; they enjoy many surroundings, from bamboo forests, to the dense Indian jungle. It adapts to live near populated settlements. The Gray Junglefowl is like the Red Junglefowl, which is in the same line as the modern domestic Chicken.
Magpie Robins have a varied diet of fruits and animals but are mostly fond of insects and worms. They scavenge in trees as well as on the ground, and hop with their tail raised. They also sip nectar.
The upper part of this bird is glossy blue-black, its wings are brown with a prominent long white patch. The throat and breast are blue and the rest of its parts are white.
Spotted babbler
These are dull birds with slender, hook-tipped bills, which lurk in forest undergrowth. It has a red cap, white eye line, greenish back, and streaked white breast. It has a loud two-note whistle which distinguishes it.
Indian Peafowl are beautiful birds that are native to India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. Male peafowl is called a peacock and the female is called a peahen. In the wild, they live in deciduous tropical forests, quiet like the ones in Tamil Nadu, India. These magnificent birds do not migrate. A peacock, dancing in plumage, is surely among the most beautiful birds in the world
